Week #9 Highlights
- Recovery weeks are very much appreciated
- Finding the right cycling shoes is elusive
- This much cycling is not just physical, it’s also mental
I’ve not much to report on for week #9 of training. It was a pretty uneventful week of cycling. After last week’s hard rides this week’s easy theme was much needed. I think I’m more mentally tired than anything else.
Lucky for me I have Emily and Scott T. to thank for their continued support. Without which I would have trouble staying focused.
All 3 weekday rides were done outdoors as the weather was once again great! The more time I spend outdoors and less on the indoor trainer the better!

I can’t believe I’m saying this but Saturday’s ride is “only” 3 hours. I cannot believe I just said only.
I had to wait until late in the afternoon to ride since it rained in the morning, but I was able to pedal 51 miles in 3 hours.
Unfortunately I didn’t make it all the way home from the ride. I had a horrible inner thigh cramp about 2 miles from the house and couldn’t keep going. I called Email to come pick me up. This is what I feared would happen last weekend during my 4 hour ride while out on the Capital Trail.
Sunday was labeled another easy ride and was scheduled for 1.5 hours. I took it real easy as I was worried about my inner thigh/groin cramping up again. Lucky for me I could feel a little soreness but nothing preventing me from pedaling.
I have a bad feeling that next week’s training plan will not be as easy as this week was…
