When in doubt, pedal it out!
Week #7 Highlights
- Set a new record for farthest ride; 60.5 miles
- Set new record for most miles in a week; 174.4
- Tempo rides are definitely making me stronger
- The time change was a bitch to deal with as I felt tired all week
- The positive of the time change is that I can ride at night without lights
I’ve lost my training partner which really sucks! Scott, whom I’ve mentioned many times in the past is in need of shoulder surgery. He is no longer able to ride without pain so he has given up on training with me. Now it’s just me and my demons to contend with on my rides.

This weekend my long ride called for 3:30:00 in the saddle.
The last time I set a distance record was week #3 of training and my training partner Scott was there to help me get through it. During that ride he kept me going when I thought I could no longer pedal. I still remember hitting the 40 mile mark and Scott telling me to call Emily to let her know we were almost there. I didn’t because I was worried about cramping and not making it to the finish line.
Now it’s 4 weeks later and I’m facing the longest ride ever and riding solo. I remembered what Scott said to me on the ride to Jamestown; his quote forever etched in my mind…
Just because you haven’t doesn’t mean you can’t. – Scott Terbush
I’m happy to say that I managed to pedal 60 miles and even tossed in almost 2,500 feet of climbing. Instead of riding the Capital Trail I decided to ride out here in Goochland in order to start getting in some elevation change.
Soon I will head out to the mountains and get in some real climbing.

Today was a cold and wet recovery ride.
Yesterday I managed to get my ride in before the rain came, but today I wasn’t so lucky. Out of the 2 hours of riding I spent 30 minutes in the rain with temps at about 37 degrees. But you know what… I think it was better than doing the whole 2 hours indoors on the trainer!

It’s been a long week. Tonight I want to feast on a big bowl of pasta!
