The entire week was a recovery week as I'm 2 weeks from riding my first century.
Week #13 Highlights
- Claimed my third KOM this week.
- I rode more indoors than outdoors; not good!
- I met Will Smith on the Virginia Capital Trail.
Much to my surprise this entire week has been a recovery week. When my cycling coach Dane King informed me I was having a recovery week this week I was surprised and a little disappointed. I’ve been feeling great and not wanting to slow down. But I know it’s important to let your body recover so I played along with the training. Well, all but one workout…
A New KOM on Strava
Wednesday’s ride was the toughest of the week. But compared to the last 3 weeks of training this Wednesday was a breeze. So when I got to one of my favorite Strava segments (Bienvenue) I decided to give it my all. I was only trying to beat my previous record but ended up with another KOM. That makes the second KOM I’ve gotten since starting my training with Endorphin Fitness. All of this hard work is definitely paying off. Thanks Dane!
The weather has been damp and rainy all week so I ended up biking indoors for 3 out of my 5 workouts. This is the only reason I was happy for a low intensity week. The less time on the trainer the better. I just hope the sun returns next week as I’m expecting to be riding hard again.
Finding Comfort on the Indoor Trainer
For the last several weeks I’ve been riding on the Forté Sweep Gel Fit Saddle from Performance Bike. Believe it or not it’s proven to be a lot more comfortable than the Fizik Antares that came with my Cérvelo S3. Don’t fall for the thinking that a more expensive seat is a better or more comfortable seat.
The Forté Sweep Gel Fit Saddle is a saddle that’s in between a race saddle and an endurance saddle. It has a synthetic cover that feels great to the touch, a center cutout channel and gel padding that I’m telling you is firm yet very comfortable.
With all of the indoor training this week I decided to buy a second one and install it on my Cervelo S2 since it’s what I keep attached to my trainer. Instantly the saddle felt better and I no longer have tingly fingers nor numbness in my kibbles and bits.
If you know of anyone shopping for a Fizik Antares, hit me up and I’ll give you a great deal.

Very happy to have been able to ride outdoors today. Plus I met Will Smith on the Virginia Capital Trail. Oh but wait, he’s probably not the Will Smith you’re thinking of. This cyclist was Will Smith, head of security for Richmond 2015. He was out to ride about 70 miles while I only had to ride 40.
We talked of my upcoming trip to Europe and the training I’m doing for the Allianz Cycling Tour and he told me about his trip to Ponferrada, Spain for the 2014 UCI Road World Championships.

The rain simply won’t stop. Another rainy day so I had to ride my S2 indoors.
