There will be bad days and bad weeks, it's what makes the good days so good.
Week #11 Highlights
- Having Emily and Scott continue to tell me I can do this is hugely motivational
- I obtained my second KOM this week
- I owned the Cycling@Allianz leaderboard this week
- I rode the most miles in a single week ever
My training program in week #10 was the first week in which I had to ride 6 days a week. If you read that journal entry you will have noticed that I stated the shadow of doubt had entered my conscious. This week I kicked that b!tch to the curb! I think ending last week with 20mph winds simply destroyed me mentally.
Tuesday during lunch I decided to visit my local Agee’s bicycle shop. I knew they sold the Bontager brand of road shoes which come with a 30 day return policy. I found an old pair (but brand new) of Bontager RL Road Shoes deeply discounted. My first day riding in them was on Saturday in which I pedaled 71 miles. They haven’t cured my numb toes syndrome, but these are the best yet. I think I’m simply prone to numb toes and need to get off the bike every hour or so and walk around the bike, stretch and sometimes take off my shoes.
The Tide Changes
I grabbed my second KOM this week. Rosemont Drive in Rockville, VA is a 1 mile segment on Strava. Even though tonight’s ride was labeled an easy ride, when I got to Rosemont Drive I felt good and wanted to start the week off with a positive after having such a down week last week. I turned left onto Rosemont Drive from Echo Meadows Road and pedaled as hard as I could. About 500 yards from the end I started to slow down as the entire sprint my heartrate zone was at max. But in the end the effort proved best as I won KOM for this effort. Take that Easy Ride!
I owned the Cycling@Allianz leaderboard this week. I rode the most distance, had the longest ride and most surprisingly of all I had the most climbing of everyone. Not sure how that happened, but I’ll take it.
I rode the most miles in a week. I pedaled 202 miles this week which puts me at 1,890 miles for the year. I’m almost 400 miles ahead of my daily goal. Fingers crossed I stay healthy and keep up this trend. It feels good to have made it this far and I want to keep going.
